Eruption on Fimmvörđuháls
During my easter holidays, I took the opportunity to make a trip to Fimmvörđuháls, to see the volcanic eruption there. First I booked a flight with a helicopter which was very expensive and a waste of money. The trip was very short and I didn´t got a seat close to a window, so I saw very little. Very frustrating! A few days later I booked a trip with a conveyor belt vehicle and that was magnificent! We had great views of the glaciers and the surrounding area all the way up and got really close to the site of the eruption. We saw lava fountains and rivers of glowing lava. Clouds of steam were rising up when the hot lava came into contact with ice and snow. And we saw a "waterfall" og molten lava tumbling down into Hrunagil ravine. We could feel the heat of the molten lava at the opposite site of the ravine. In the twilight it became even more spectacular. The atmosphere was almost festive: people were grilling sausages and legs of lamb at the edge of the ravine and drinking wine. A once in a lifetime experience! I let the pictures speak for themselves...
